These mysterious lands abound with secret places, esoteric objects and curious oddities, the vast majority of them not in museums or catalogued collections. Join us as we venture off the beaten path to uncover the most unusual places and curiosities in Britain, from little-known ancient monuments and shadowy roadside oddities to marvels of Victorian engineering and everything in between. Even the most seemingly mundane places may be steeped in tradition, folklore and magic, perhaps giving them new meaning long after their original purpose had been lost to time. This website aims to present not only a gazetteer of hidden places but also the legends that have kept them alive through the oral tradition for generations. In doing so, we encourage you to explore the wonders of your own backyard, and perhaps even document those places here in the process!
